The Only Cleaner You’ll Ever Need

When I started using essential oils, I also wanted to find an all natural multi-purpose cleaner that was good and affordable. As I mentioned in a previous post you can make a cleaner out of Thieves oil, but Young Living also sells a Thieves multi-purpose cleaner that just needs to be diluted with water.

After reading blogs by others who conducted an experiment between Thieves and Lysol they showed that the Thieves cleaner was just as effective if not better at cleaning and disinfecting than Lysol.

What makes Thieves essential oil household cleaner different?

Well, this cleaner is made from therapeutic grade essential oils, as well it is an organic and biodegradable cleaner. Also, it is a multi-purpose cleaner because it has so many uses! Here are a few things I use it to clean, as well as what my mom uses it for:

  • windows
  • counter tops
  • door knobs (I’m a college student and I live in dorms. So it’s basically a breathing ground for bacteria.)
  • floors
  • bathrooms (toilet, sink, mirrors

The video below shows three more ways that Thieves Cleaner can be used.

Those are just a few uses for Thieves! If you type in Thieves cleaner into Pinterest you will get tons of information, uses and recipes for it.

4 Favourite Recipes

So for today’s post I’m going to be sharing 4 of my favourite recipes!

Recipe #1 – Super Happy Muscles

This one is a favourite for after the gym or any physical activity I find! When I was playing hockey regularly I was using things like Icy Hot and A535 to help with any sore muscles or discomfort. If I had known about oils back then, specifically this roller it would’ve been a game changer.

  • 15 Panaway (Essential oil blend of Wintergreen, Clove, Helichrysum, and Peppermint)
  • 8 Copiaba
  • 10 Peppermint
  • 5 Northern Lights Black Spruce
  • 5 Lemon
  • 10 Wintergreen

Use a 10 oz roller bottle and top with any carrier oil, I use Sweet Almond Oil!

Recipe #2 – Tummy Troubles

If you ever feel nauseous, bloated or your stomach just feels off then this is for you. This oil has saved me so many times! I use this roller whenever my stomach just feels off. This one doesn’t smell nice like the others but it works and I never leave home without it.

  • 15 Peppermint
  • 15 DiGize (Essential Oil blend of Tarragon, Juniper, Anise, Ginger, Fennel, Patchouli, Peppermint, Lemongrass)
  • 5 Lemon

Use a 10 oz roller bottle and top with any carrier oil, I use Sweet Almond Oil!

Recipe #3 – Focus

This roller I carry with me everywhere, I find it helps me with more than just my school work. I’ve used this specific roller to help me through numerous all-nighters to finish term projects at school and this is one my friends at school always ask to use.

  • 15 Lavender
  • 15 Vetiver
  • 15 Cedarwood

Use a 10 oz roller bottle and top with any carrier oil, I use Sweet Almond Oil!

Recipe #4 Breathe Cream

Unlike the other three recipes, this one isn’t made in a roller bottle instead, it is made in a small glass jar. I know many people who use this cream as a substitute for Vicks VaporRub. Basically, it is a more naturally alternative to Vicks and it works the same. This cream is used for colds or the flu but I started using it when I had a cough that would not go away and within a couple days I noticed a huge improvement in my cough. I’m going to share two variations of the recipe, one for adults and one for kids.

For adults:

  • 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 15 R.C.
  • 6 Peppermint
  • 7 Frankincense
  • 7 Lavender
  • 8 Eucalyptus
  • 5 Thieves

For kids:

  • 4 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 20 R.C.
  • 7 Frankincense
  • 7 Lavender
  • 10 Peppermint

Whisk together and store in a glass jar. Apply to chest, throat, back, and feet.

It is important when making anything with essential oils that glass, aluminum, or stainless steel is used to store what you are making. Essential oils (especially citrus ones) can pull out the toxins in plastic and you don’t want that.

3 Essential Oils Every College Student Needs

As a college student, three oils I have found to be very helpful this year are Peppermint, Thieves, and Lavender. These three oils are very versatile and each have unique properties.

Thieves – It is a blend of eucalyptus, cinnamon bark, rosemary, clove, and lemon. Thieves is used to help support the immune system. As well, Thieves can replace every cleaner under your kitchen sink and be used as a multipurpose cleaner, that is just as effective as bleach. Check out this blog post on how to make a Thieves All-Natural Cleaner Spray.

Peppermint – Is a relatively inexpensive oil but is very versatile. Peppermint can be used for headaches, pain relief, and it is also a natural energizer. In the afternoon instead of reaching for coffee or some sugary alternative, you can take a few whiffs of peppermint and it will help keep you energized. If you have a diffuser around you can always diffuse peppermint and lemon to help keep you energized as well it smells good to0!

Lavender – Lavender is one of the most common oils, almost everyone I talk to uses lavender essential oil. It is a calming oil, as well it can be used as a sleep aid, by diffusing it or placing one drop in your hands and inhaling it. One of my favourite things to do with Lavender is to mix it with peppermint oil and make a headache roller with it, super easy to do!

I use these three specific oils daily. Thieves I use twice a day, I have an Immunity roller and I use that once in the morning and once at night. I always have Lavender in my diffuser at night and as I mentioned it is in my headache roller that I use daily too!

Why I started using Essential Oils

I have a few friends, as well as my mom who were all using essential oils and were loving them and having great results with them. My Mom was even able to convince my dad that the oils were worth the investment by using an oil called Panaway to help with a minor knee pain. This was when I started to consider investing in some oils, and I am glad I did.

I started using essential oils back in June of 2016, and I haven’t looked back. Aside from just smelling good, essential oils are a great way to help support your overall health. As I mention in the video below I had three main reasons for trying essential oils, the reasons being:

  • I have trouble sleeping
  • I get frequent headaches
  • I want to avoid getting sick.

Since I started using essential oils I have noticed an improvement in all three of these areas in my life. As I kept using them I was quickly finding more and more uses for my oils, and as I found more ways it was something that I could get behind and help people start with.

Essential Oils: The Basics

What Are Essential Oils?

First of all, if you haven’t heard of essential oils well, then you probably live under a rock. Essential oils are one of those things that have so many uses and are an all-natural product, they can be used to purify your home, and support your personal wellness. Essential oils are the aromatic, volatile liquids distilled from plants. They can be obtained from roots, seed, shrub, flowers, leaves and trees. Essential oils are extremely complex and are made of different unique chemical compounds. The oils provide support to all nine systems found in the human body. So, what can essential oils do? A few examples of what essential oils can do are

  •  reach every cell in your body within 20 minutes when applied topically
  •  remove toxins in the air when diffused
  •  eliminate toxins in your body (The Happy Oilers, 2015)

This is only a glimpse into what essential oils can do for you. I personally use Young Living Essential Oils, and I absolutely love them. What’s so special about Young Living? Let me tell you!

Why I use Young Living

It’s important when using essential oils to make sure the product is all-natural. Most brands you buy from stores aren’t pure oils and are made for cosmetic and perfumes. I chose Young Living because of their ‘Seed to Seal’ promise.  Young Living has their own farms, where they grow and cultivate their plants. They oversee the whole process of making an essential oil, from before the seed is planted all the way until it is sealed and shipped. Young Living puts so much emphasis on ensuring their oils are up to standard and are the purest, therapeutic grade oil are the market. Yes, Young Living Oils are more expensive but they are better quality and totally worth every penny.

I love being on this oily journey and I hope you will join me on it too! The learning never stops with these oils!
